So the club has taken the decision to stay in an overwhelming majority. There must be feelings of disappointment from those of you who put in the hard work to secure the offer from Tesco/Dewsbury Rams in the first place for it not to be discussed in open forum.
It is clear that the club does not have the potential to be developed to the standard of facilities which were on offer with the ground share option that members have not been given the right to vote on. However, there is huge potential to improve the facilities, and this must be done to fulfil promises given which made members overwhelmingly vote to stay.
What is important as ‘mightyredfan’ posts, is that the promised improvements to the facilities do take place.
It should be the case that you will have a full development plan put in front of you together with a time scale and schedule of works to be carried out at Your AGM.
Perhaps it is a bit much to at this stage, expect a five year plan, but certainly you should expect a ‘one year’ plan, together with details of how these plans are going to be carried out and resourced, not only in financial terms but also in terms of volunteer commitment.
There are a lot of jobs that can be done by members, thus decreasing the costs and increasing the improvements.
With full membership declining over the years since the membership has been closed, the ‘pool’ of people eligible to stand for office, and the exec has also declined, and this is not a healthy position to be in.
How many of the current full members regularly come down to the club and help with general chores that need to be done? Is it always left down to the same few? Perhaps those full members who don’t put effort into the day to day running of the club have already done their bit.
In any organisation which is run by volunteers, it is often the case that there are never enough ‘working’ members who give up their time and effort in the furtherance of the organisation. ‘New Blood’ is always needed.
In order to attract ‘new blood’ to help ‘regenerate’ the clubs’ facilities there needs to be some ‘reward’ (I am not talking financial).
There is probably a large, untapped pool of volunteers who are currently social members, many of whom have already put a lot of time and effort, but there may be many more who don’t see the point of doing so as they have no say in the decision making processes of the club, and no one can blame them for this.
Given that the club is set to stay at Ingfield for the next five years, and not even entertain buy out offers from whatever source, no matter what the deal, (unless of course there was an amendment to the resolution that has not been posted on this site) perhaps the time is right to offer full membership to all social members who have been so for 5 years or more? (I think that is in line with your constitution from the postings I have read).
Perhaps is should be automatic that after social membership of 5 years that full membership be offered? It doesn’t mean to say that the offer will be taken up, but some new blood would come out of this.
How else is the club to survive?
To open up full membership in this way would also go some ways to uniting the club.
Yes, it might cause the current exec a few headaches as more members, means a wider opinion base, but the threat of a move has now been removed, so whats the problem with doing this?
