Here's an independent report I've come across for all those who couldn't get and for the 1800 in Shoppersville.
Sorry its a bit late but better late than never
Ossett Town 2 – 4 Fleetwood Town
Entertainment: 5/5
Star Man: Richard Allen (Fleetwood)
by: Peter Fraser
The season began in sensational style with six goals, a saved penalty and three injury time red cards at the Ingfield.
Newly promoted Fleetwood Town produced a fine display of attacking football, but were to finish the game with 9 men after Stuart Beech, lashing out off the ball, and Jamie Milligan, tackling from behind, saw straight red. Ossett’s James Walshaw also received his marching orders after a brawl following Milligan’s late challenge.
Prior to the ugly ending Fleetwood had always been in control. The Lancashire side, boosted by strong travelling support, took the lead on 2 minutes when Stuart Beech slotted in unmarked at the far post following neat work from Richard Allen.
Allen, who was inspirational throughout showing pace and trickery, then added a second on 11 minutes pouncing on a half cleared corner to find the net from 20 yards.
Ossett, struggling with the visitor’s 4-5-1 formation, were over-run in midfield and lacked communication. However, on 24 minutes they regained a foothold in the game when Philip Lindley spectacularly volleyed in from a corner.
The resurgence was short lived. Within a minute Fleetwood had regained their two-goal cushion when Joe McMahon headed in a precise Allen cross exposing a static Ossett defence.
Ossett introduced Walshaw and Paul Rickers in the second half, but this had little impact. Neil Bennett in the Ossett goal remained the busier of the two keepers producing an excellent double save from Allen and stopping a Milligan penalty, after Allen had been brought down by Ossett’s David Briggs.
Fleetwood then netted their deserved fourth and ended the contest as Milligan poked in a wayward McMahon effort from close rage on 55 minutes.
Following the flurry of red cards Ossett rescued some pride when Lindley headed in his second from a corner in the 94th minute.
