Acquired this from an independent source:
Ossett Town 2 – 1 Prescot Cables
Fothergill 2 Duffy 76
O’Brien 10
Star Man: Matthew Daly
Entertainment: 2/5
Two goals in the opening ten minutes gave Ossett Town all three points in a comfortable victory.
Ossett took the lead as early as the second minute when Carl Fothergill scored his first goal for the club with a composed left footed finish after being found in the box by Andy Hayward.
Rob O’Brien then doubled the margin with only ten minutes gone when he collected Paul Rickers’ cross to shoot past Ryan McMahon in the Prescot goal with the assistance of a deflection.
From then on victory never looked in doubt for the home side. Town, who have been struggling defensively so far this campaign letting in 12 goals in four outings, looked a far better prepared side. The back four, marshalled by the excellently composed and dependable Matthew Daly, held a consistent high line safe in the knowledge that the two Prescot strikers, Karl Connolly and Gary Jenson, evidently lacked the required pace to counter the offside trap.
Cables did not threaten throughout the first half and almost conceded a third to a Philip Lindley half volley, which drifted just wide.
However, the visitors began the second half intent on making a contest of the match and Mark Duffy was at the heart of their most dangerous moves. The 20-year-old ex-Liverpool Academy member showed he has skill in abundance on the right wing with two dangerous runs and a powerful thirty-yard free kick, which was well saved by Town goalkeeper Neil Bennett.
Inevitably it was Duffy who gave Cables a lifeline on 76 minutes when he met a Stephen Johnston cross. Duffy judged the bounce of the ball far better than the Ossett left back Richard Tonks to tap in at the far post.
This had little effect upon the outcome. Ossett appeared content and, despite six minutes of injury time, never looked in trouble.
