I haven't posted for a while since the TESCO issue died down, but was puzzled today to hear a conversation in Dewsbury about how TESCO is still hoping to negotiate with Town, and talks will begin again next year !! Anyone else heard owt ?

the former committee man i spoke to at the weekend said something like "don't be surprised if we start talking to Tesco's again when the 5 years are up" which surprised me considering the depth of feeling against the proposals amongst the members, but may be the club realise they have been stitched up by the local businesses and now know they are not going to get any support whatsoever from all these people who were so anxious to keep the club at Ingfield.

Or maybe the club finally realise that people will start voting with their feet and they have to arrest the slide quickly

Don't see much point in talking to anyone unless the deal is still on the table for a ground-share with Dewsbury Rams. There just isn't the land in Ossett to have a purpose built stadium, so where else can you go?

Good point about the ground share, though you have to wonder now if Dewsbury would be interested still. Maybe with the promotion last season they don't need a ground share anymore, and I can't help wondering if Town have missed out on a good opportunity there now. I remember the last one that was thrown up moving to Queens Drive in a purpose built stadium and sharing with Wakefield RFU and someone else, that sounded like a good idea too but nothing ever came of it for whatever reason.

There is more than enough room to build a purpose built ground, on the present site. Probably even enough to keep the astro turf pitch. Tesco's buy land all over the country and don't build stores on them, its to prevent others doing so. Even if they did want to build a store the club never asked the people of ossett, only the people who want to save there own bacon. these people where never going to turn up at the games, they would be too busy laughing at the club. The best thing the club can do now is to upgrade the ground, just make it a bit more pleasant.

you will be pleased to note that the club are starting to carry out improvements to the clubhouse, recently they got someone in to paint the toilets ( i think his name was Stevie Wonder), i dont reckon much to the colour, though i suppose it's an appropriate colour for a s***hole.

I am sure the Club Committee would love to improve and up-grade the ground, but in order to do this they need money, how is the club doing financially, do you know? Have they had an AGM yet?

there has not been an AGM for nearly 2 years and from what i can gather there is no prospect of one in the near future.
no idea about finances, though i did hear some of the contract players like Neil Bennett and Dean Calcutt were put on the transfer list, so the club either wants to reduce the wage bill or at least spend the money on players who want to play for the club.

I Bet Dewsbury would still be interested with Ossett sharing Tetleys Stadium. No sport is played at all at the stadium october to january and bills still need paying!
