Ossett Town U11’s – Garforth League Ossett Town 8(3) – Pudsey Juniors 1(0), 7th January 2007. KO 10.30. Ossett Scorers: Spurr, Walsh, Turfrey(2), Wright(2), Daniel, Pudsey O.G. Ossett MoM: Fox
The Wright Stuff – But Hat-Trick Denied With the exception of Ossett keeper Campbell (absent through illness) Ossett fielded a full strength squad for this opening fixture of 2007, and apart from an initial goal mouth scare, comfortably dominated what turned out to be a very scrappy game.
Following that early fright, Pudsey found themselves practically hemmed into their own half as Ossett first applied and then maintained the pressure. The home side’s intentions were quickly made apparent as Turfrey; looking stronger every game now, twice came close to opening the score early on, both from clever passes through from Walsh. The first just going wide across the goal and the second forcing a good save from the Pudsey keeper.
It was Spurr who took the initial honours on 5 minutes though, nippy and alert, latching onto a scuffed clearance and scooping the ball over the keeper from 10 yards. 1-0. Five minutes later Ossett made it 2-0 with a superb individual effort from Walsh, taking on, and easily passing two defenders inside the box and following with a deadly, clinical finish.
Walsh soon came close with another two efforts both just going narrowly wide; the first a shot on the end of a pass through from Daniel after he had picked up a short kick from the Pudsey keeper, and the other reacting to the second in a row of freak corners hitting the crossbar from Carlos.
Despite their spirited, and mostly effective, efforts in thwarting the Ossett attack, the visitors finally succumbed to the inevitable third goal as Turfrey, at last rewarded for his efforts down the left, made it 3-0.
The second half continued as the first had ended – scrappy, with a passing game inhibited by the heavy and rapidly deteriorating pitch. Pudsey came out with a positive attitude, and they needed to as Daniel and Spurr immediately put them to the test with some strong and determined play down the right.
Town made it 4-0 in the opening minutes of the half as Turfrey’s excellent cross fell to the feet of Wright, via scuffed defensive clearance, at the edge of the Pudsey box. Wright made no mistake, calmly looking up and hammering an unstoppable shot beyond the reach of the Pudsey keeper.
Wright, who’s power and pace have been an asset to the Ossett defence so far this season, today took the chance to demonstrate his attacking ability, having come on for Cundall in the right of midfield during the first half. And Ossett’s fifth goal came as an o.g. from a Wright corner which he himself had forced with a penetrating run down the right.
Pudsey were next to score however, with what turned out to be a single consolation goal from what was a well taken free kick, hit high above the Ossett wall and over Ossett’s second half stand-in keeper Mountain (replacing Taylor who had stood lonely and untested in the first half!).
Wright provided Ossett with an instant reply with a very well taken goal to make it 6-1. Sprinting onto a nice through ball from Spurr and totally defeating the Pudsey offside, Wright found himself one on one with the keeper and managed to take the ball just far enough to make the keeper to commit himself before expertly unleashing the finish.
Wright again drove the attack with another strong run down the right, and producing a brilliant cross which Turfrey would have scored had it not been for a brave diving interception from the Pudsey keeper.
Next it was Daniel to turn on the style. Having had a quiet game by his standards up to this point, he made up for it now with an impressive, Henry-esque goal from long range. Picking the ball up midway in the Pudsey half, he skipped past two defenders heading across the pitch from left to right and then hit a shot, with more precision than power, in the opposite direction, and towards the left hand post. The wrong footed keeper could only watch on, distraught as the ball nestled into the bottom corner at what must have being at least 2mph! 7-1.
As the game came to a close, Turfrey rounded the scoring off with a nice individual goal. Running down the left and cutting to the area he ignored the shouts around the pitch to cross and instead side footed an unstoppable shot in at the near post from an impossibly tight angle.
In the dying minutes Ossett were denied their ninth, and Wright his hat-trick for offside. And just before the final whistle Taylor narrowly missed scoring as the Pudsey keeper blocked his close range shot.
Not the most entertaining of games but both sides kept up their spirit and effort to make it a competition right to the end. Ossett applied most of the pressure during the game, and the attack racked up an impressive score, but credit also has to be given to the Town back four, particularly of Stead, Fox, Ruane and Mountain, who effectively snuffed out any hint of a Pudsey attack and allowed the score-line to remain so emphatic.

Ossett Town Under 11’s
Huddersfield League
Ossett Town 5 v 1 Thornhill
Goalscorers: Scott, Carney, O.G., Rogers and Preston
Player of the Match: Chris Scott
“Scott first out of the blocks”
In the first game of 2007, Town ground out a good win against an improved Thornhill side.
With an absence of football for five weeks and a very heavy pitch, this was never going to be a pretty game - and so it proved.
Things started well with Town scoring their first after only 40 seconds - immediately from the kick off Town attacked through the middle and when Awad laid the ball into the path of Scott, he made no mistake and put the ball home for Town's quickest goal of the season. Town saw this as a sign of things to come, but how wrong were we.
Earlier in the season Town had beaten Thornhill comfortably, but today Thornhill came, were in places more organised and battled well to put Town under, at time, some severe pressure. For the best part of 25 minutes, Town struggled to hang onto their lead and with a number of out of character defensive errors, Thornhill looked as though they might get an equaliser.
To Town's credit though they got stuck in and worked hard and whilst it wasn't pretty to watch, the players did what mattered, particularly the defence of Sheen, Hall, Briggs, Hobson and Carney who all tracked back to recover the ball to keep a clean sheet.
Town stretched their lead in last five minutes of the first half when Carney, who had now been pushed up front, hit a sweet ball home from 20 yards out giving the keeper no chance. A couple of minutes later and midfielder Horsfall had an opportunity but he hit his shot at the defender who then under severe pressure form the Town attack put it into his own net.
So, half time, Town had a 3 v 0 lead, but it looked far from comfortable and they would need to work just as hard in the second half to keep ahead.
How right were we. Thornhill came out with all guns blazing and within a couple of minutes had pulled a goal back.
They then put Town under pressure again and with the very heavy pitch Town had to battle to keep the edge. With the good work of Lonsdale, Potter and Awad in midfield and Scott and Ahmed on the wings, there were rare glances of what Town are capable of when they control the ball and attack the opposition.
Dann was once again composed in goal and when he was needed he dealt with the ball comfortably.
The ball had spent so much time in midfield that the striking partnership of Rogers and Preston had seen little of the ball - although, in the last five minutes things did explode.
First, Town attacked on the right and Preston put in a nice cross for Rogers who in typical poacher fashion knocked home.
Two minutes later it was Preston's turn and this time he did it on his own. He picked the ball up deep in the opposition half and ran at the defence. After beating the defender he unleashed a cracking shot into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.
This was a good battling performance and a good win against an improved Thornhill side.
Scott was named player of the match for some good work on the left and for scoring Town's quickest goal of the season so far.

Ossett town under 9s vs Durkar Devils.
Terriers lost 4-0
The Terriers battled well against a strong Durkar team. Ossett played down the slope in the first half and fought hard for every ball. Durkar moved the ball quick and created a few chances early on, however fine defending by Danny Bell stopped Durkar in their tracks. Matthew Depledge also made some great saves before Durkar found the net with a shot from the edge of the box just before half time.
Half time 1-0.
Ossett found it more difficult in the second half and despite good runs from Will Pollitt and Luke Gothard from midfield Durkar began to dominate. Durkar’s center midfield player controlled the second half by scoring two fine goals from distance and setting up the third. Ossett never gave in and they could have had late goals from Connor Rigg or Will Pollitt who both came close to finding the net. Matthew Depledge won man of the match for his heroic game in goal.
Tigers lost 3-0
The Tigers had two Defenders missing this week and it showed in the first half up the slope. Durkar took the lead early on with a corner that Ossett failed to clear. The second goal came soon after with another cross from the right that caused panic in the Ossett defence. Jack Harrop tackled well in midfield. Durkar won the ball in midfield and scored their third goal just before half time. Ossett came out in the second half like a different team. Great runs from Josh Pamment and Frazer Ellis caused Durkar to panic. Ossett went close with Harry Walls hitting the post and Daniel Hayward had many opportunities to shoot, however Durkar managed to just get a foot in at the last minute. Ossett made enough chances in the second half to at least earn a draw but it wasn't to be Ossett's day. Man of the match went to Josh Pamment.

Ossett Town Juniors Under Sevens Match Reports
Batley vs Ossett Town 7/1/07
The Lions
"The Day after Epiphany"
Batley 1 - Lions 9
Ossett started well, with lots of pressure which frustratingly failed to let goals materialise. Some atmospherics were in the way of the first goal, not given, but the magi were on route home from Bethlehem via Batley dropping off some gifts for Ossett, “Magi dust for small football boots”.
Geraint Evans opened the scoring for Ossett to break the deadlock of near misses. Elliott Hewitt’s all round game was excellent, which saw some of his good tidying up in a messy defence, culminating in a pass to the ever enthusiastic Liam Finney, who ran straight to then weight an excellent ball to release Thomas Coe. Thomas had the keeper to beat which he did with a tremendous clout of the ball.
Thomas McGee on for two minutes managed to power a low one into the bottom left, from outside the keeper’s area.
Batley had their moments, but Ossett’s defence of Sam Allen and Liam Taylor coped admirably with the challenge.
In the second half, the magi dust was coming on strong with some outstanding football demonstrated by Thomas Coe’s second of three. Geraint Evans ran with the ball taking on Batley players, Liam Hitchthingy took over and crossed. The goal scramble led to a shot hitting the post which was followed up by the fleet of foot Thomas Coe, to place the ball in the net. Such was the momentum of the Lions anyone of several players in several attacks could have got one.
Geraint Evans’ solo run resulted in a second goal for himself and the Lions in this half.
Thomas Coe struck again with a well placed effort. Batley’s heads did not go down and Liam Taylor managed the threats almost single-handedly, showing great awareness and timing.
Ella Walker was the next on the score sheet after driving home a well struck shot leaving the unprotected goalie, standing still. Time for an enthusiastic celebration which undoubtedly was a catalyst in the free kick she took from an acute angle. Ella took the free kick quickly and with great accuracy resulting in a whirlwind of a goal.
Ossett pressure continued as they ran from everywhere, trying to extend their lead. Batley got a consellation goal, showing that when they were attacking they could be dangerous.
Sam Allen rounded off the scoring with a close range shot to the bottom right.
Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh for some of us, magi dust for small boots for others, and all free.
The Tigers
“The Day after Epiphany”
Batley 0 - Tigers 5
The Three Wise Men have given us Magi Dust for Small Boots the Tigers gave us a great performance with their Magi Dust infested boots. Oliver Spencer scored a brace in the second half and was just rewards for his efforts in tackling, dribbling and passing. Oliver was the dynamo of the midfield in the first half. Early pressure in the half saw chances for Matthew Rogers and Finlay Townend.
William Hall made telling clearances from defence whilst Connor Ryan was impressive in carrying the ball from defensive positions and breaking up the oppositions attacks.
In goals Jacob Merrick whose new found confidence saw him positively claiming possession as he dived at feet, gathered the ball in and made a goal saving lunge to the ball to deny a Batley goal.
The Tigers turned round 2-0 up. As the weather turned early in the second half, the match turned into trench warfare around the Tiger’s box. There was some excellent defensive play from the Tigers and some brave and inspirational goalkeeping from Jacob Merrick. Such was the commitment shown by Jacob that he was hurt in the defense of his goal.
Connor Ryan replaced Jacob in goal and continued with the good work.
Benjamin Cartwright went up a gear. He had got some new rolled up sleeves from Santa. Benjamin, sleeves rolled up, ready to get the job done, tackled a Batley player half way in his own half and bet three players as he took the ball down the wing to cross to Finlay Townend. Benjamin’s performance seemed to rub off on others.
Sean Owram found his feet and goal as he played up front for the second time. We were treated to his balance and speed in front of goal to take a well controlled goal scoring shot.
Finlay Townend, whose running shows the marks of a natural born striker was the next to convert his well deserved efforts.
Oliver Spencer ran tirelessly at goal having several near misses but finally being rewarded, with his third for a well deserved hat trick.

OSSETT TOWN JUNIORS UNDER 12s GARFORTH LEAGUE
COUNTY CUP
Ossett Town 1 v 0 Bradford Wildcats Ossett Town under 12s entertained Bradford Wildcats in heavy conditions and ploughed through the mud to win 1 – 0 and secure a deserved quarter final place in the County Cup.
In a first half of few clear cut goal scoring chances Ossett went ahead through an own goal with the defence under severe pressure from Tom Smith and Edward Booth. Bradford were then awarded a debatable penalty, which was placed wide of the post.
The conditions started to take their toll in the second period, but Osset stuck to their task well, with ‘keeper Alex Rothery making a brace of excellent saves late on.
No individual player of the match award was given, but honours went to the whole squad for a battling performance in difficult conditions.

Ossett Town Under 14’s
Ossett Town 3 v 2 Longcroft Lions
Ossett Town U 14's visited high flying Longcroft Lions hoping to end a run of 9 straight defeats, and do that they did with a battling 3-2 win. Despite a heavy pitch and poor weather both sides contributed to a very exciting game which ebbed and flowed right from the start and it wasn't long before the first goal arrived when Towns Kessar Iqbal rose at the far post to head home an excellent Tom Young corner. Longcroft then created a host of chances only to see Town’s goalkeeper Jack Milner thwart them on several occasions. Town rode the pressure and capitalised when Ryan Fozard stabbed the ball home after a goal mouth scramble. The second half began with early pressure from the home side resulting in Town’s lead being halved, but Town dug in and weathered the storm before restoring the 2 goal cushion through a precise Tom Young penalty. Lions then reduced the deficit again with a penalty of their own. But Town dug deeper in the last 15 minutes to hold on and ease relegation fears with the whole team, spurred on by Cory Hemingway, winning the player of the match honours.

CHARLES RICE JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE U15’s CHALLENGE DIVISION
ROYSTON DYNAMOS v OSSETT TOWN
Date: - 7th January 2007 Kick Off: - 1:30p.m.
Ossett Town resumed the league season after the Christmas break, continuing in the same fashion as they had left off with a comfortable 5 – 0 victory over Royston Dynamos, to extend their unbeaten run to eleven games.
Royston were pushed back from the outset and Town almost scored after 4 minutes but Josh Hardy’s strike was turned over the bar by the goalkeeper. From the resulting corner Royston’s goalkeeper had to make another save when Phil Williams shot from Josh Hardy’s cross.
Royston found it difficult to create any real threat but did get in behind the Town defence after 20 minutes with a through ball from midfield, however, centre back Scott Archer was able to get back to prevent a shot on goal.
Despite controlling the game it took Town until the 28th minute to score the first goal, and it needed a little bit of luck to help. Shaun Joy’s shot from outside the penalty area was deflected off a Royston defender into the path of Josh Hardy who found himself clear in front of goal and finished well.
Having made the break through, three more goals came before half time. After 30 minutes a Ross Hardaker corner was ‘bundled’ goal wards by Carl Thompson only to be cleared off the line, Hussam Atif however, was on hand to force it in. Four minutes later Atif played in Georgie Tate who rounded the goalkeeper to put the ball into an empty net and just before half time Tate himself passed to Josh Ellis whose left foot strike gave the goalkeeper no chance. Half Time: - Royston Dynamos 0 v Ossett Town 4
Royston made a better start to the second half and had more possession of the ball in the early stages but were unable to cause Town any major problems and were restricted to looking for the through ball which Towndefended well.
Town were only able to find one more goal in the second half after 61 minutes, Josh Hardy picked the ball up in the middle of the Royston half and played it out wide to Carl Thompson on the right, Hardy continued his run into the box and was there to volley Thompson’s cross into the roof of the net. Full Time: - Royston Dynamos 0 v Ossett Town 5
Man of the match for Ossett Town: - Carl Thompson
Goal scorers for Ossett Town: - Josh Hardy (2), Hussam Atif, Georgie Tate, Josh Ellis

Razzling, Dazzling Barker scores 4 as Ossett Town U13's win 5-4 in a topsy turvy game.
Town U13's played host to Kellingley in their first match back after the Christmas break.
Town were quickly into their stride and were 2-0 through Ryan Barker's strong and aggressive running.
Kellingley found their range and were back in the game with two goals in quick succession and it could have been more but for in form keeper Ryan Fletcher.
Town struggled to find the back of the net and it wasn't long before Kellingley scored their third.
Town rallied and were rewarded by a goal from James Cromack who latched onto a loose ball and directed it into the back of the net.
With the game almost over, three more goals were scored in the dying minutes.
Town hit the cross bar and upright through James Bannister only for in form striker Ryan Barker to make it 4-3, however Kellingley piled on the pressure and scored immediately.
