Last weeks shield victory took its' toll on the squad and it was a threadbare 12 that travelled to mid table rivals Morley Spurs.
On a windy day there was trouble for the keepers and long high balls confused both defences.
Possibly biased opinion had Ossett the better side in the first half. Morley had sprung the offside trap from a free kick after 30 minutes but Ossett then had all the play. Jody Wray was once again outstanding down the right wing beating two then putting Kate Westmoreland through who crossed for Becky Woods to score (yes, that's Becky the first choice keeper playing at centre forward).
Half time 1-1
The second half continued in the same vein. Again Morley sprung the offside trap (or maybe not, but the ref is the boss) to go ahead and then an Ossett move down the right saw three blocked shots before Angela Lines curled one into the top corner.
2-2 with half an hour to go and the wheels started to come off. Kate took a knock and was replaced by Jamie Fitton. Tired legs struggled to clear the ball and Morley scored two more for a deserved win. Town finished after lasting the last 10 mins with 10 players, Amber Scarth unable to continue after 80 minutes of non-stop running.
Final score Morley 4 Ossett 2
Despite the loss there was much to be encouraged by. Only four players were first choice in the positions they played. Five players played completely out of position.
Team
Laura Patterson, Becky Shaw, Toni Lines, Emily Stevenson, Amber Scarth, Jody Wray, Vicky Saul, Keeley Dewhirst, Angela Lines, Kate Westmoreland (60 Jamie Fitton), Becky Woods
Player of the match Emily Stevenson
Special mention Angela Lines
Both grafted for the whole game, Emily making a scratch defence look class for the first hour.
