Ossett Town Juniors – Under 11’s Westend 0 v 9 Ossett Town Scorers: Preston (3), White (2), Carney (3) and Rogers Player of the Match: Preston With limited action in the last three months due to the weather, it was nice to play on a good firm pitch away from home against Westend. The pitch had a wicked slope going left to right which confused the Town players in the opening minutes as the ball just kept rolling and rolling and rolling. In the opening ten minutes Town attacked the Westend goal, but credit to the Westend defenders and midfield, who were incidentally having to play very deep, they battled well to keep Town at bay. Both strikers Preston and Rogers had early chances but couldn’t quite get the final touch. On eleven minutes though Preston was to put things right and set Town off on the right tracks. He received the ball following a good pass from midfield and with the ball at his feet he took three or four steps forward and with the crowd shouting “shoot”, Preston let loose with a cracking right footed drive which flew past the keeper into the back on the net. On the left, winger Scott was causing the Westend defence problems as he weaved in and out and crossed the ball, but the slope got the better of Town to deny what would normally have been well created chances. The second goal came on 17 minutes and it was that lad Preston again. Once again, the ball came in to Preston from the right of midfield and as soon as he saw the keeper off of his line he lobbed a beauty into the net for the best of his three goals. Whilst Town were now in command, Westend did break on the rare occasion, but they found the resolute defence of Hall, Briggs and Hobson on top form, supported by the dependable keeper Dann who, on one occasion, raced off of his line to make a brave save at the feet of the Westend attacker. In training on Saturday, White had on more than one occasion skied the ball well over the fence when trying to use his left foot, so when he received the ball today, just outside of the 18 yard box, the Town fans must have been tempted to close their eyes. White though was having none of it and whilst it fell to his weaker left foot, he let loose with a cracking shot which sailed into the net to claim goal of the game. At half time Town were three up, but to be honest hadn’t yet got into top gear. In the second half the floodgates opened with six goals in total. Carney got a hat-trick whilst White got his second for his brace and player of the match Preston got his third for a well deserved hat-trick. Striker Rogers was the other player to get his name on the score sheet after good work from Carney. In fact, Carney and Rogers were linking up so well in the last 15 minutes that they were passing the ball to one other splitting the Westend defence easily as they went about their business. Horsfall, on at half-time on the right wing, had a very good game and got two assists and, with better finishing, would have got onto the score sheet himself. Hartshone, Awad and Lonsdale all had good games working hard in the centre of midfield and Ahmed showed some fantastic skill to run the Westend defence ragged whenever he had the ball. A good pitch, a good game, plenty of good goals and an excellent win – well done boys.

Ossett Town Juniors Under Sevens Match Reports
Ossett Town versus Ossett Trinitarians 25/2/07
The Lions
Sound and Vision Lions 4 Trinitarians 1
Against the sound of speeding cars and lumbering mobile cranes one lad had football vision, know how and a near perfect performance to help the Lions complete a victory against a very much improved Trinitarian’ s side. Elliot Hewitt, man of the match and football visionary, was part of a purring midfield combo with Liam Finney. Both players were able to provide quality ball for the fleet of foot hotspurs up front, Thomas Coe and Ella Walker.
Thomas Coe made the left wing his own and his skills and crossing caused many problems for the stout Trinitarians’ defence. The first half saw territory and possession go to the Lions but excellent goalkeeping, dogged defence and the last pass by the Lions combined to keep the score nil nil.
Liam Taylor, as reliable as a perpetual motion machine, doused the Trinitarians attacks and breaks allowing Geraint Evans opportunities to take part in the battering of the Trinitarians box. Geraint eventually slid one in and the teams turned round at 1-0.
In the second half Trinitarians looked more dangerous and their efforts were rewarded with a goal. However, the Lions improved their passing play with an excellent passage of play in which Thomas Coe provided an exquisite cross for Ella Walker to finish from inside the Trins box.
Liam Taylor went in goals and had more work to do than first half keeper Sam Allen, who played solidly in defence through the second half. Geraint Evans trammed up and down the whole match and was able to finish off two further goals

The Tigers
In denial Tigers 1 Trinitarians 2 Finlay Townend, denied, Oliver Spencer denied, Liam Hitchock denied, Benjamin Cartwright denied. An excellent goalkeeping performance from the Trinitarians keeper denied Ossett continuously through the game, but in particular the first half.
Lloyd Rogers had an excellent passing game in the first half as he provided the midfield and attack with great ball and denied the infrequent Trinitarians breaks with well-timed and firm tackling. Benjamin Cartwright ran his socks off and Scott Rankin and Sean Owram managed to snuff out many attacks with crunching tackles and clearances.
The Tigers looked comfortable as they put together penetrating runs. However, there were often so many players in the Trinitarians box that Sardines would have been jealous, swimming up stream and waddling through the mud of the pitch to get in somewhere so cramped.
Eventually Liam Hitchock running from his own half started off the goal scoring move. Oliver Spencer took the ball on to the edge of the area releasing Finlay Townend to thunder a strike past the excellent Trins keeper.
Jacob Merrick in goal had his patience and concentration tested as he quickly was brought into the game in the second half, after basking in spring like weather in the first half. He put together a series of excellent saves as the Trins broke, coming out to narrow angles, making himself big and diving at feet.
However, Trins looked increasingly dangerous and they tried to build a base camp in the Tigers half. The pressure led to two Trinitarian goals.
The thing about the Tigers is that they have never given up and they continued to fight back. They created opportunities up front, but often denied themselves in their eagerness.

Ossett Town under 9s vs Glen Juniors.
Terriers 0 - Glen Juniors 2
A disappointing result for the Terriers. Ossett Town started the game slowly, Glen Juniors closed down Ossett quickly and didn't give any time on the ball. Ossett had four or five chances in the first half with both Connor Rigg and Will Pollitt going close. Matthew Depledge had a quiet game in goal for the first half with Ossett having most of the possession. Alex Broadhead battled well in midfield. Tom Wilson had a chance to put Ossett 1-0 up in the last minute of the first half with an open goal. Tom's shot just missed the target. Half Time 0-0
Ossett came out in the second half looking like a different team, second to most balls and allowing Glen Juniors to grow in confidence. Danny Bell battled well in defence, however too many passes were not finding Ossett players. Glen took the lead early in the second half with a strong run and finish from their central midfield player. Tom Wilson made some fine runs into the Glen half, however the final ball or shot didn't come off. Glen Juniors central midfield player scored a similar goal to his first with ten minutes to go. Ossett didn't give in though, Will Pollitt worked extremely hard for the last ten minutes trying to pull a goal back. Ossett had enough chances to get something from this game. Man of the match went to Will Pollitt
Tigers 1 Glen Juniors 6
Another disappointing result for the Tigers. Glen came out the stronger team right from the start. The Ossett players seemed to be half asleep for the first Glen goal scored right from the kick off. Frazer Ellis tried to put his foot on the ball and play some nice passes. Glen added a second goal after ten minutes, Luke Herries lost the ball on the half way line, Glen Juniors played in a perfect cross from the right that both the Ossett goalkeeper Stuart Dyson and Defender Josh Pamment left for each other. This allowed the Glen striker to nip in for a simple tap in. The third Glen goal was a superb strike from 25yrds straight into the top corner leaving Stuart Dyson no chance. Half time 3-0
The second half improved for the Tigers with Frazer Ellis, Ryan Oldroyd and Danny Hayward all having chances to score for Ossett. Glen added three more goals and Danny Hayward scored a consolation goal in the last ten minutes. Josh Spandler played some good passes from defence which earned him man of the match. Shooting practice for both teams at next training.

CHARLES RICE JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE U15’s LEAGUE CUP ROUND 2
SHERBURN WHITE ROSE v OSSETT TOWN
Date: - 25th February 2007 Kick Off: - 2:00p.m.
Following the postponement of this game two weeks ago due to a waterlogged pitch, the tie was switched to Ossett as the Sherburn White Rose pitch was still unplayable and it produced a close game with Ossett being pushed all the way before finally overcoming Sherburn by 4 – 3 after being taken to extra time.
In a tight first half Ossett had the bulk of possession, their best chances however came from a string of corners with Reece Barker heading over from Ashley Grint’s early corner, and later Phil Williams shot over the bar from a good position at the far post.
Sherburn looked dangerous on the break with their two front men showing good pace and almost scored after 11 minutes when their striker was through on goal but his effort went wide after he flicked the ball over the advancing Ossett goalkeeper Carl Widdrington. Half Time: - Sherburn White Rose 0 v Ossett Town 0
Sherburn made a good start to the second half and took the lead after 45 minutes with a good finish on the volley as the ball was played in from the right hand side of the Ossett penalty area.
After a spell of pressure Ossett eventually equalized after 62 minutes. Following a corner which Sherburn looked to have dealt with, the loose ball came to Scott Archer around the halfway line, he played the ball in behind the Sherburn defence for Ross Hardaker who controlled the ball and picked his spot beyond the goalkeeper.
With just 5 minutes of normal time left Ossett thought they had won the game when Hardaker scored his second goal, turning in Josh Hardy’s cross after a good passing move. Ossett should have sealed the victory after 78 minutes but this time Hardaker volleyed over from Georgie Tates cross and a minute later Shaun Joy shot over from close range following more good work by Tate to force the opening.
To their credit Sherburn pressed for an equalizer and were rewarded in the third minute of stoppage time when they beat the offside trap to leave their player through on goal to finish well. Full Time: - Sherburn White Rose 2 v Ossett Town 2
After Extra Time: - Sherburn White Rose 3 v Ossett Town 4
Ossett looked to have the match secured inside the first half of extra time with goals from Josh Hardy after 73 minutes and Carl Thompson after 77 minutes. Sherburn however pulled one back in the last minute of normal time in extra time and then, but for some desperate defending by Ossett, almost equalized with the last attack of the game, as the referee again inexplicably added on almost 5 minutes of stoppage time
Man of the match for Ossett Town: - Scott Archer
Goal scorers for Ossett Town: - Ross Hardaker (2), Josh Hardy, Carl Thompson
