An important six pointer at the bottom of the WRWFL 1st division. Town hadn't played for a month and needed to win this to ensure survival. It was "grand weather for ducks" as they say and the crowd expected an ugly game - what they got was dirty but not fowl (ugh)!
Another week and another back four for Ossett, but this one looks like it's here to stay, Jamie Fitton made the move from old fashioned centre forward to centre back and gelled with Emily Stevenson from the first minute. Keeley Dewhirsts tireless running and Amber Scarths cool and collected play made this the best back four Town have used for some months. Town controlled a lively Shipley forward line to good effect throughout the first half and survived a few scares in the second.
Towns forwards took command and used the full width of the park, after three minutes Town attacked down the right, Vicky Saul and Kate Westmoreland dragged the defence across to the right and a through ball saw Toni Lines arriving from the left to strike home.
After 17 minutes a similar move saw Toni make a dummy rush to the near post leaving Vicky in the clear to make it two.
Town continued to have chances, Kate Westmoreland firing just wide on two occasions.
Half time Shipley 0 Ossett Town 2
Town had further chances in the second half but could not convert, Kate worked hard and unselfishly, but again could not hit the net.
Shipley got a consolation after a mix up from a corner and tried to make a fight of it for the last 15 minutes but the points all went to Town.
Final Score Shipley 1 Ossett Town 2
Player of the match Kate Westmoreland, special mentions to Jamie Fitton and Vicky Saul.
Next week the big one! At home to Huddersfield Town and you never know - we may have a chance!
Thanks to all the mums (or possibly dads) sorry for the state of the kit!
Team
