A Chance ( and chances) missed.
As the end of the season approaches Town's Ladies need to secure some points for safety and this looked one of their better chances.
With star midfielder, Gemma Howell, doubling up commitments, Town kicked off with only 10 on the field but still looked most likely to score. Gemma arrived after seven minutes to take them to full strength and soon saw Kate Westmoreland latch onto to long ball, beating the offside trap and slotting home.
For the rest of the first half, Town looked the better side, both sides had chances, the better of which fell to Towns Jody Wray who shot wide but both defences looked tough to beat, Republica played a sweet offside trap and Towns back four looked confident in winning and clearing the ball.
Half time Ossett Town 1 Republica 0
The game continued in the same vein for the first quarter of an hour until Republica won a corner, it was well taken into the danger area and the Republica strikers forced the ball home despite a desperate clearance attempt by Jamie Fitton.
Town still looked like pulling away but Republicas strength began to tell on the hard surface, two through balls in the last 15 mins saw their experienced strikers split the Ossett defence to score.
Final Score Ossett Town 1 Republica 3
All the squad could be proud of today and if they could manage 90 minutes of work and concentration that they are able to do for 60 (or in some cases 89) then they would be unbeatable. Keeley Dewhirst was player of the match for her constant hard work with special mentions for Emily Stevenson (calm as always in the centre of defence) and Vicky Saul for skillful work in creating chances for others.
Team
Becky Woods, Sarah Law, Emily Stevenson, Jamie Fitton, Amber Scarth, Sophie Morrison, Keeley Dewhirst, Jody Wray, Gemma Howell (Angela Lines 55), Kate Westmoreland, Vicky Saul.
