last night i listened to the Arsenal v Man United match on radio 5. In recent years Arsenal - Man United games have tended to be bad tempered affairs, with the media including the BBC slagging off both teams for their bad behaviour after every match. Last night's game was a fairly mild mannered match, with only occasionally the odd naughty tackle, but instead of praising both sides for keeping their discipline for once and getting on with the game, alan green was criticising both sides for not kicking lumps out of each other! and it wasn't just the one off remark, him and the other commentators (including Graham Taylor who ought to know better) were all slagging off both teams. Even the moron who reads the sports news on breakfast news this morning was at it, showing the newspaper headlines calling the game a "drudge match". to me, the BBC sports department showed their true colours last night and this morning, they are not interested in football, they are there just to slag off football and sneer at anyone involved in football. They are jealous because cricket and hockey and show jumping don't get crowds above 30,000 every couple of weeks (in the winter as well) like football does.
I was going to mention Rugby union in that list of middle class sports i just mentioned there, but while no one watches club rugby union in the UK, the international matches do get attendances similar to football.
