Hi Guys, just thought I'd let those of you know who complain about the cost of watching Ossett Town that here in NZ I have just purchased a season ticket to watch Waitakere United who are currently the 3rd best team in NZ behind New Zealand Knights and Auckland City. The cost was a staggering $20 for 11 home games which works out about 65p per game!! I know the standard here is pretty shabby but Waitakere does have Danny Hay (ex Leeds United) as there captain this season. I understand it's a bit expensive to travel out here every 2 weeks but not bad all the same. Hope the seasons going better than what it seems and everyones ok. Speak soon.

the cost of watchng football is becoming a problem, £45 to watch Wigan v Man City, no wonder thousands of City fans refused to travel 20 miles to Wigan to watch a load of rubbish.
At this level, the minimum prices are set by the Unibond League, but £7 is a bit steep for the standard of football on offer, and when you throw in all the other costs (car park, programme, golden goal ticket, cup of tea, burger, maybe a pint or two after the game etc), you could spend £20 very easily. Couple of kids with you, that could be best part of £40 or £50. For what? to watch players like Matt Daly and Paul Rickers doing their best to avoid breaking out in a sweat, or watch Neil Bennett flapping around the box like a headless chicken every time Ashton had a corner.
No idea what standard New Zealand football is compared to English football, but 65p a game for a season ticket sounds like very good value, i've paid more than that to watch a Sunday cup final in the Wakey Sunday League.
Great to hear from Pete again, i assume he'll be watching the GB vNZ rugby match on Saturday, i think its a 8 am kick off British time Saturday morning. I imagine Pete will be in a bar, the only Brit in a pub full of New Zealanders. Should be fun.

I'll know more about the standard after Sunday but I can tell you the grounds/stadiums are quite impressive. With regards to what you are watching at Ossett I thought this site was all about opinions but judging by Skeetah05's comments clearly that is not the case. I can't comment for Matt Daly or Paul Rickers as I don't know them but having known Neil Bennett since he was 9 years old I know he'll take comments like that on the chin and get on and deal with it. I'm sure he's had much worse in Scotland. Anyway with the negatives there must be some positives so who is doing the business for Ossett this season and do we look likely to attain a play-off spot?

i assume Skeetah 05 is a player or the boyfriend of one of the players, if you want an argument, i'm up for one you miserable little brain dead squirt, why should the club's hard earned money be squandered on lazy show ponies like Rickers, Daly, Davidson, O'Brien etc? i take Pete's point that Neil Bennett gets a lot worse abuse than anything on here, he gets it in the neck for 90 minutes every Saturday off the opposition supporters, but the outfield players can hide on the field and no one says a word, look at last Saturday, O'Brien is meant to be a winger, but he's in the middle of the field passing the ball to the opposition all the time, Davidson stands on the edge of the 6 yard box, watching crosses gently floating by instead of trying to get his head to the ball and score (that's what forwards are meant to do Danny, score goals, not argue with refs or smirk everytime something goes wrong), fat boy Rickers is more bothered about not ruffling that 1980's haircut he has while Daly, well, i understand Ilkeston have signed him. Good riddance to overpaid bad rubbish there.
so, skeetah 05, or anyone else who has wet their nappies because i have dared to criticise the players, bring it on, tell me why i am wrong for wanting value for the £7 i spend every home match, i can accept the team losing to a better team so long as they have tried their best, but i can't accept losing to rubbish like Ashton and Ossett Albion.

well done "player", you've really put me in my place haven't you with that witty retort.
I suppose i am a "f***wit", i pay £7 to watch a load of idle prima donnas strolling around the pitch, who are getting £40 a game or whatever and i'm not supposed to say anything when i realise i'm watching a load of rubbish.
What i have noticed about most players (past and present) is that they are quick to find fault with the club when ever the club does anything wrong or makes a mistake, yet they cannot cope with any criticism of their performance or mistakes they make. It seems we just have to sit there in silence and not say anything.
Can you imagine the supporters of Frickley or Bradford Park Avenue and some other clubs tolerating some of the performances we have had to watch this season? they would be in your face and down your throats and letting you know exactly what they thought of your performance.
We're too soft at Ossett Town, its about time we stopped putting the players on a pedestal and treating them like gods and started demanding they give the same effort and commitment that other clubs demand of their players.
I can almost predict what will happen tomorrow, Mossley will give 100% and they will bust a gut for their manager and their supporters, ours will stroll around, blaming the pitch, blaming the ref, blaming everyone and everything else.
I also predict some idiot teenager who can't spell properly will reply to this message with some incoherent drivel.

i'll be back on Monday morning, you limp wristed nancy boys have until then to explain why the Ossett Town supporters, who pays their £7 or £3.50, are not entitled to criticise overpaid players who can't be bothered trying their best.
enjoy your weekend.

;DClearly there is some unrest amongst supporters and whilst it is difficult to comment when I can't get to watch I do still have views. It is my belief that for the 90 minutes that the game is being played every supporter should be 100% behind the players supporting and backing them throughout the game. Also at this level and within reason I believe it is the duty of a soccer fan to berate the opposition players and the match officials to a certain degree if things are going wrong. That is what a saturday afternoon watching football is all about and that's what gets the adrenalin pumping. After the match whether it be in the bar or on the way home that is when the debate on who's good enough and who's not should take place. Any player worth his salt should be able to take criticism (not insults) at this level and especially if they are getting paid for doing the thing they love. I would have given anything to play at this level or above and to get paid for it would be a dream come true, unfortunately I never had the break or the ability so a supporter I had to be. Hope the game goes well and look forward to seeing your comments after the match. Come on GB the Kiwis are running scared for tonights match!! ;D

Hey up pete good to hear all is well nz.how are the sheep out there? ;D i don t really bother coming on here to be honest. but kitty told me i d been hammered on here, so i wanted to se what has been said. i fully agree a fan should be able to moan about players. But i don t think we have over paid player at ossett and i know first hand how much time and effort a player has to put in at this level.Playing , trainning and travelling all adds up and when all is said and done it is a job ,that we enjoy. i am sure there are clubs with bigger wage bills than ours below us . Don t get me wrong the players are fully aware we need to improve and i am sure we will as time goes buy . so as the season goes on i will probably flap one or two more times thats for sure, but do not ever question my comitment to ossett town again.if any of our 8 fans would like a chat with me please feel free to pull me aside in the baaaaaar. and i will gladly speak to you man to man.

How's it going Neil, the sheep are ok but pretty sore Nice to hear from you on here but I can understand why you don't come on often. There is no need for you to get caught up in things like this. My guess is no-one will take you up on your offer to discuss it face to face, and the next time I see you at a bar I expect you to buy me a pint. Hope you didn't think I'd been giving you any hammer as I have said I can't comment from here all I have posted is my views and this was never started as a means to slam individuals. Anyway good to see the league form is turning around a little and a solid victory yesterday against Mossley. So hope the old team's doing well and life's looking good for you and your lady. P.S. I've just read the FA laws and apparently it's not an offence for the keeper to leave his line!! just kidding mate ;D

morning everyone, Saturday was a big improvement, the only player i felt the urge to shout at was Rob O'Brien, i just cannot believe he was an England Schoolboy International and a former Leeds United apprentice, he should go and play for Garforth Town with all the rest of the fancy tricks show ponies. Somebody had better warn O'Brien there will be no hiding place tomorrow night at Armthorpe, they will kick anyone and everyone. have a great day everyone

Good luck for the Armthorpe game, I remember going there in the early 90's for a midweek league game and that was enough to put you off soccer forever. But thankfully we came away fully intact and with no damage to our vehicles. I think we also came away with a 2-2 draw. Talking of players with fancy tricks does anyone remember Robbie Stewart who used to play midfield for Town? Bit of a showboater but hard as nails and a real comic. My adopted team lost 1-0 to Auckland City this weekend who incidentally could play Barcelona in the World Club Championship!! Have a great week everyone

Overall the content of the above thread has been acceptable and thought provoking. That doesn't mean to say I agree with everything that's been posted particularly the bit about idle prima donnas as that is a little OTT and also generalises far too much. People place a value on things and from the premiership down players are quite simply overpaid that's a fact. That is not the players fault it's market forces and Unibond Premier is no different to any of the other leagues where there appears to be a going rate - some will appear to work tirelessly and others will appear bone idle but will show touches of quality which may guarantee selection for a few weeks to come. The old rules in this league, where a player signed on for 2 years were better for clubs like ours as we had some sort of control over budget and personnel however since the inception of the 7 day rule on all players other than contract players it leaves the clubs in a precarious position. Conference North clubs can court our players promising a few extra quid, highre standard and better facilities and we have no real answer unless on contract. No real obvious solution other than a real attempt to nurture more local home-grown talent who by, their roots, have a sense of loyalty and affinity with their club. The re-introduction of the reserves is a step in the right direction and in maybe 2-3 years it may start to bear fruit.
In closing I agree totally with XED on one thing he pays his admission so he's entitled to his opinion as a supporter. Previous posts from XED suggest he's been at the club a long time and Knows the mechanics of the club fairly well some not all of his post needs a long hard look and a touch of self-analysis. cheers Thomo
