Whilst the meeting on Monday provided some sorry scenes, it means at last that Ossett Town Football & Social Club is now being controlled by the members who actually care about it! i've read the ridiculous claims that the executive committee who have, creditibly, gained so much success being 'booted out by lunatics!' - if the old executive committee were so in favour of Ossett Town AFC then why on earth attempt to close it down and move out of the town to cohort with the expensive failure that is Dewsbury Rams!!! Wakefield & Emley anyone?!!? It seems justice to the community of Ossett that Ossett Town AFC stays where it is, thanks for the hard work Mr Thomson but don't gamble a mere personal pipedream with a club that belongs to the members. The most ridiculous suggestion that I have seen on this forum is that the 'new exec' are a bunch of fools, the very fact of the matter is- if a proper preparation for a potential merger had been organised without going behind the backs of the members and with a certain degree of professionalism then perhaps these 'lunatics' might have had a listen!! Certain members of the previous exec smacked of hypocrisy, lies, deceit and have duely been removed - A bit of advice to Mr Thomson, if you've now got a bit of spare time on your hands, why don't you go give a hand down at Wakefield & Emley, rumour has it that their 'merger of the century' went the same way as a snowflake in a heatwave and have begun again under the title 'Emley' (the one that served its purpose and achieved great success). But then again, I'm sure Mr Thomson wouldn't want to associate with 'lunatics'!!
Hooray to the new exec - maybe the members might be asked their opinion on the odd matter or two now!! ;D

This is the biggest load of ill informed claptrap I've read on this subject - you obviously have some axe to grind and are clearly not in possession of the facts surrounding the clubs (not Phil Thompson's) investigation as to the various options regarding moving or staying.
Firstly our chairman Graham Firth has previously spoken about developing Ingfield and purchasing the land that is owned by Mrs. Lang. He has on several occasions talked about junior pitches etc..Etc...
On this note Mrs. Lang has advised Phil Thompson (she has also said that she wrote to the Exec at the time stating) that she would never sell any land to anyone associated with Graham Firth. Graham's attempts at misleading the Ossett Town people, I say people not just Members, is on a similar scale to the lies regarding the books being closed on legal advice.
The recent meeting clearly demonstrated that Mrs. Cox hill and Mr. Firth are the ones who distort the truth.
With regard to Phil Thompson I know he has attended several meetings with planning officers and prospective developers or partners all at the request of the Executive Committee. According to form the Executive Committee were asked by the members to return when a clear offer was on the table. This has not yet been achieved. Mr. Thompson and Mr. Firth have attempted to locate suitable Town centre premises as a possible home for the club. In fact I know that Phil has in his possession an offer on the table from the developers which would allow the current clubhouse and function room to remain at no reduction to the previous recent offer. This has been obtained in an attempt to put another suggestion to the members on the table.
The full Executive Committee have been invited and have visited both the Boards of Wakefield Wildcats and the Dewsbury Rams facilities and stadium with an open invitation from the Board at Dewsbury Rams to all members of Ossett Town to enjoy a guided tour of the facilities. Graham Firth and Martin Voakes have visited the stadium to determine what would be required to upgrade the pitch and meet current League requirements.
Phil has provided a business plan to the Exec along with a suggested loyalty payment to all members of say £3,000 + £100 per year of membership as a clear acknowledgement that Ingfield can only be sold once.
There is speculation about further supermarket developments in Ossett and if these come to fruition Ossett Town could see the value of the current offer plummet. I could go on about all the other work Phil and the rest of the Exec have done and Phil has done this not just without cost to the club but at significant expense to himself.
This is not his personal pipe dream but is a commitment to provide the Ossett Town people with facilities and an infrastructure for the foreseeable future. The legacy of John Carter is one of a man who helped to create a football club, improve that club, move that club and provide a sound structure on which to progress. The legacy of Graham Firth will be one of a man who has distorted the facts for his own personal gain!
With regard to your comparison of Ossett/Dewsbury and Trinity/Emley you could not be wider of the mark, for a full answer read my post on the earlier thread.
I would be grateful if you would explain your comments regarding hypocrisy, lies, deceit particularly when it was plainly obvious to all who chose to ignore that that accusation lay firmly at the door of Mr. Firth & Mrs. Cox hill you may also wish to add fraudulent and manipulative to the list.
I don't know who you are Jim so would be grateful if you could fully identify yourself and explain where you were sat in the room on Monday night.
I would welcome an open forum at Ossett Town AFC where all concerned and associated with the club can have a frank and open meeting where all the facts can be laid open and everyone concerned can answer questions and be held accountable for their actions.
Only when this is done can people who have been on the periphery of these meetings form an informed opinion. However I seriously doubt that those people who control the club will allow this to happen, instead, they will hide behind a closed door meeting and make decisions based on their own self interest at the cost of everyone else associated with the club.

I presume this means the possible groundshare with Dewsbury RL is off and that Town will continue to struggle along at Ingfield where all the locals can enjoy a pint of mild of a Saturday evening?
A very sad state of affairs when there is obviously a very nice offer on the table from a supermarket chain and the chance of moving to a superb ready made stadium within spitting distance
A very sad day for Ossett Town AFC

I heartily agree with the replies to Jim, he obviously is another lunatic who cannot see past his nose end. It is a real shame that the people who are working hard to bring Ossett Town into the 21st century have been voted off by people who put their own agenda before what is good for the club. They seem to be putting their own desire to have their own "exclusive" speakeasy drinking den before something that would benefit all the many excellent junior teams not to mention the senior teams. I read of the mud slinging and personal vendettas and cringe. WHAT A WAY TO ENTICE NEW SPONSORS ETC. It is a shame tarring and feathering is outdated as messrs Firth and his cohorts deserve no less. I also suggest Jim crawls back under his stone until he realises we now have wonderous things like electricity and cars etc. WAKE UP MAN !

some good points made there Mr Kelly, just a shame that these good points weren't made available to members months ago- then maybe we wouldn't be in the current position. Ya see, people don't mind change- particularly when it's a positive change (no matter how traditional or conservative that individual might be) but people don't like being lied to and don't like not being kept informed. The members own Ossett Town FC just like, i assume, you own your own house: now if someone was making the decision to sell your house and move you to a bigger and better house but without having the decency to inform you of the facts and went about the majority of negotiations without even informing you then i dare say that it would put your back up and, in turn, make you highly suspicious of the whole thing. Afterall, it it was such a good thing to sell your house then how come you weren't told anyway?? there's a comparison for all these idiots who are posting (most of them clearly not present at the meeting on monday) to think about. Tell me one thing- why should any member read about potential buyouts and mergers in a local newspaper when they have no knowledge of it themselves? good question that isn't it?! the basic fact is that if you are honest with people, they tend to trust what you say, start carrying on behind their backs and, as is life, they start to think that they cannot trust you further than they can throw you. seems to me like 'the boy who cried wolf' - why should anyone believe a word when everything in the past year regarding Ossett Town Football & Social Club has been done behind the backs of the members?

I think you need to speak to the Chairman. He's been there for a long time so he could be the common denominator for things been done behind backs in the past years. Ask him what Phil's instuctions were with regards any proposals, offers etc.
Your accusing the wrong one of going behind backs.
Phil as been part of Ossett Town for a many years first as a player, then as a player manager currently as a junior manager so he only has the interest of Ossett Town Football at heart. If you know him then you should know by now that he tells it as it is and thats why he has been known to upset others.
You can't fight facts with fiction and hear say and that appears to be what some people are trying to do.
He has never denied that he would like to move Ossett Town to bigger and better things but this is not for his own personal pipe dream but for the benefit of football at Ossett Town for both juniors and seniors. Is that really a crime. Having a passion for Ossett Town Football to play at its highest level is the only thing he is guilty of.
Just for the record yes I have known Phil for many many years probably more than most.

Chuckle Chuckle - I am certainly not Mr Thompson.
I said I had known him longer than most not that I had known him all his life.
But who ever I am I have only spoken the truth.

Any chance that all this school yard mud slinging can be stopped please, as it will only result in damage to the most important subject which in case anyone hasn't realised happens to be the good name of Ossett Town A.F.C. & Social Club. I totally agree with fan121 that Phil Thompson has done a fine job in his work to improve Ossett Town on the field and i know that those members who are football fans have praised him greatly in his achievements in that department.Lets also give Steve Kittrick credit as manager for turning the clubs fortunes around. As for all the other stuff, as i am only a social member and junior manager i am not party to the internal affairs that seem to have caused all this bad feeling between certain people but i do care about the club and think that its about time that everybody who is involved with the club whether directly or indirectly should start working together to improve what i think is an important part of our community.

litigation! it will be as well if all parties shut the f*** up from now on, this could well end up being sorted out by the solicitors. also, there is some talk of this website being closed down, since it is no longer an official Ossett Town website. this club's better than a soap opera see y'all next time! ;D
