small article in Wakefield Express (page 3) about shopkeepers in Ossett objecting to Tesco moving into Ossett. They have the support of the liberal councillor Alec Metcalfe, who, elsewhere in the Wakey Express, has objected to the new pub/restuarant being built in the old GT Smith supermarket. I seem to remember Metcalfe objecting to the new bus station and the redevelopment of the town centre preceinct, has this guy ever supported anything new in Ossett?

thank goodness that the offensive photo and post have been taken off this site- good call mr moderator. The only reason i've even looked at this site this morning is due to the sick, twisted post containing the photo had been printed out and passed around the club last night causing great offence and disgust at the levels to which some people will stoop.on the official club websit, a photograph of a baby whose looks might not conform to some people's ideal notion of normality blamed on not having a tesco? unknowingly, that post is a big a dropped bollock as any committed at the club- it has been discussed that each member be sent a copy of it (until it was pointed out that this would be stooping just as low and may just upset and offend others). the evening post would love it, i dare say Tesco would be interested in it, not to mention the market keepers and shop keepers in ossett- which ever sick b***ard posted something like could well be reminded that our club opens its doors to disabled people and any creed or colour of person that wants to come in. you should be ashamed. not that it is anything to do with me i find absolutely laughable that the prospect of a Tesco in ossett is now the new 'selling point' to a move!!!!! the move to dewsbury rams is now good for all who want to buy decent food!!! i'm a sainsburys man myself ,and occasional marks and spencer man when i'm flush! and the talk of Tesco being the answer to a food shortage in ossett is ridiculous! there's a tesco less than a 10 minute car ride away in batley! i'm all for progress, i'd like to see a greggs open in ossett for instance, but why are you 'pro-tesco' people now using such selling points? ?? you come on here and post facts, figures and statistics when let's face it- the members aren't interested!! if they were then they would be choosing their seats at the new ground! each new stage of development smacks more of desperation than the previous one. i spoke to phil last week and, i admit that the move to the rams has its good points, i just don't want to see it happen- why? because i'm yet to hear of a similar merger of two clubs to ever be successful (were brighton and hove albion two clubs once though?!)- that is why i don't like it. is someone telling me that emley were not promised the earth and financial rewards for moving to wakefield, was this done on a wing and a prayer? was it chuff, it will have been 'sold' to the members with equally prospective gains as is visible here yet it went the way of the pear. the club has undoubtedly progressed over the last ten years (yes phil has been part of that too) so will someone tell me why it can't continue to progress where it is and be risk free? another thing that nags away at me is this..... if this deal is such a good deal for dewsbury rams and they can build new pitches, facilities, and whatever else they promise to further both clubs then why oh why, if the figures and accounts look so good........... don't they simply get a business loan of a bank or building society to get the money? if, as it screamed on this website, the accounts, monies and progress are risk-free then any bank manager would see the potential and lend the money. i spoke with a retired bank manager from natwest last week and asked him about this- he said if the business plan was tight, the prospective earnings could be seen then any bank would lend them the money. so there you are, why do dewsbury rams need ossett town? is it something to do with £4,500,0000 or is it because they want to share toilet facilities? can you imagine the response from dewsbury rams if ossett town had no money and approaced the rams to 'share' its facilities? hahahahahahah!! yes, so can i . they way i see it is dewsbury rams are only interested in the money ossett town can make if they sold to tesco, they'll take the money and within ten years we'd be like emley- starting all over again at the very bottom rung looking like a set numpties. i'm not interested- and more to the point, neither are the members. don't get me wrong, this is only MY opinion and i'm entitled to it.

as i understand it we would actually buy half of the Rams Stadium for £1.5 million, the other £3 million would be in the club bank account (does Yorkshire bank have a branch in Geneva? ;D), the club would also get half the income from the bars, function rooms, pitch hire etc, plus we would still have the clubhouse at Ingfield and the money that place makes.
But, for what ever reason, the majority of the members are against the move, so they will throw out the proposal when the AGM eventually does get called.
Once that happens, i think the club should publically state that they will not entertain any more enquiries from supermarket chains or anyone else looking to solve their financial difficulties by selling off Ingfield. the club should make a public commitment to develop Ingfield up to conference standard and the members and committee should also make a public commitment to do what is best for Ossett town AFC and not look to use Ossett Town for their own personal gain.
And its about the people of Ossett started supporting Ossett Town, they've obstructed the club's progress on many occasions in the past, but, all of a sudden, because some of them may lose their jobs if Tesco's comes to town, Ossett Town is now a good thing to have in Ossett. Make your minds up folks, either you want us or you don't.

multi sports stadia receive greater grant funding and opportunities than single sports stadia. Dewsbury Rams have made a commercial decision to offer Ossett the chance to purchase 50%. Emley don't or never have owned any percentage of Belle Vue. Ossett Town would share costs with the rams therefore reducing Rams costs. As for the members choosing their seats, very few members actually watch Ossett Town our Chairman has failed to attend one single away game in my time on the exec which stretches back 3 years. The members who choose to use the club for social reasons can continue to do so. Martin Voakes told me they were to develop Ingfield- if that wasn't achievable they would look to investigate a move. The fact of the matter is there are simply too few people offering their services free of charge. At numerous AGM's our Chairman has stated the need for new blood , only after a half-thingyed EGM do people miraculously step forward to stand on the exec. If the move is discussed fully and presented properly along with staying and developing then fine. If the vote is to stay it may be a worthwhile proposal to follow Xed's idea to put moving to bed once and for all. A few might think a strange suggestion coming from me but I can honestly say, after attending numerous meetings, there is little prospect of securing suitable land to meet our requirements if the Dewsbury issue is scuppered. Then the next thing will be open the membership, bring the Juniors and Seniors closer together then and only then can you call it democratic. Mr Voakes' quotes in YEP stating democracy is an insult to all who have fought for such a thing in the past.
As for merger of two clubs, no-one has suggested this is a merger of two clubs it's a ground sharing proposal whereby we would own 50% of all assets. Like I've posted on here before tats, young tats, tats jnr, & paul etc etc etc your opinion is welcome however misinformed!

cracking point chief! as i've said before i'm against the £7 entry fee but whether the place would swell on a saturday afternoon if the charge decreased is open to debate. having two clubs in ossett doesn't help but that won't change. the average gate at ingfield is about 90 i understand (on a good day) so where are all these junior lads and their dads (or mums)- with the amount of junior representatives banging away regarding membership, maybe if more of them showed their faces on a saturday afternoon then the stands would look better. it's well documented that i spend my time with other voluntary organisations who survive through 'bums-on-seats' quota i can say that my research over the years culminates in letting people know what's there. just a test, ask the next person you see in ossett town centre one of the following questions: what league are ossett town in? what colour shirt do ossett town play in? (and during the season) who are ossett town playing on saturday? and we wonder why the stands are empty? a bit cheesy i know but how about sending some of the players down to the local schools to push the club or running a training session with each school football team once a month so that local kids know who the players are? doesn't have to be a regular thing but i'm sure one or two of the players wouldn't mind doing it once or twice a year. nobody in ossett knows the names of an ossett town player apart from those that appear in the paper for negative things! the stands are empty so why not stick a voucher in the ossett observer or wakefield express with "entry into saturdays game for 1 adult, 1 child - a free hotdog, for a fiver." don't get me wrong, it might not work but where would we be? in the same position we're in now! surely avenues must be looked at to gain support?

Sorry tats I missed the point about Ossett needing a Tescos being a main selling point for a move. Tats what colour is the sky in your world?? I think someone is attempting and succeeding to wind you up. We've had discussions with representatives of Asda, Sainsbury & Tesco. We didn't bother with a proposed new airfield as we thought we might struggle getting flights bound to Tenerife past the town hall spire. The fact of the matter is Tesco's have offered us a chunk of money which will allow us to progress significantly as a football club whilst retaining our social identity at Ingfield. What puzzles me is our two senior officials Chairman & Club Sec were firmly behind the proposal. Our chairman publicly speaking with enthusiasm about the possibilities, attending Dewsbury to assess the playing dimensions. Why or whom has changed his mind?

The voucher system has been attempted on a pilot basis by guess who? Richard Kelly. He printed hundreds of vouchers offering a burger with an adult paying spectator etc. Average gate at OTFC last season 144. I personally ran a junior fun day a couple of seasons ago during school hols on the pitch with the help of a few junior managers. All profits went to the senior set up and the first team manager came along and presented medals and certificates, i think its got to the stage now where I tell you I bought those. Curtain raisers are a result of my suggestions to encourage better attendances. Games are sponsored during the season by Junior sides. The Juniors gain entry for £1, Junior managers free, these figures don't go on the attendance. Like I keep saying youre listening to the wrong people before posting your comments as you know I entered a very lively debate last Tuesday evening which in terms of who was there was very one-sided but I think I did allright by way of putting a few people straight on various issues.

Keep informing people Tommo and hopefully the penny will drop with the doubters! The members must do what is right for the club and not what is best for the individuals within it and around it!!!

i don't know all the details, he went to do a job in Leeds and some pikeys were waiting for him, he was unloading a lawn mower from the back and the pikeys jumped in the cab. martin had locked a gate behind him but they smashed it down and drove off.
